Beauty Bush Kolkwitzia amabilis

This highly adaptable, hardy shrub is somewhat ignored. This might be attributed to the fact that they do not display or bloom well in containers. To really appriciate their beauty one must see them full grown in the landscape,. just look at these pictures! Related to the honeysuckle family, the plant is an arching, spreading shrub, with light brown flaky bark and graceful arching branches, which can grow higher than eight feet tall. It is usually as wide as it is tall. The plant blooms in late spring. Its light pink flowers, dark pink in the bud, are about one-inch long and bell-shaped , they grow in pairs, and form showy, numerous sprays along ripened wood.
