Kentucky Coffee Tree  Gymnocladus dioicus
Open, acsending branches are minimal , increasing as time goes on on this long lived, hardy, slow growing tree. This, along with its interesting roughened bark makes for a picturesque scene in dormancy. Tropical looking leaves appear early summer attributing to its slow growth and hardiness. This tree is sleeping during all those early and late freezes in Colorado and only comes out summer and fall when weather is predictable. Tolerance to pollution and a wide range of soils makes it a suitable tree for urban environments and well used in commercial landscapes where longevity is the plan.
